Intel’s 34nm-based 320GB solid state drive creeps closer to reality

Hankering for an SSD that’s as big as your traditional HDD? So is Intel, or so we hear. In fact, we’ve been hearing whispers that a capacious 320GB solid state drive was in the works since January, and now those whispers have been upgraded to library-like voices. According to the generally reliable Golum, Intel’s so-called Postville SSD family is well on its way to reality, and with them should come much needed price drops. The new series should top out at 320GB, with an 80GB and 160GB version falling underneath. Word on the street has it that both of the smaller two will be around $100 cheaper than the same-sized X25-M drives, though there’s been no leaks on the 320GB model’s MSRP. Still, Intel has a golden opportunity here if it’ll just get these things to market — a cheap(er) SSD with a brand name like Intel could blow the solid state market wide open.

Seven Things You Can Do to Protect the Laptop Hard Drive

Computer hard drive is easily damaged, but most of the damage is due to improper operation by users. In fact, if you can do the following seven things, you can reduce the possibility of a hard disk failure, thus reduce the possibility of data loss.

1. Do not cut off the power when hard disk is in action

The regular hard drive spins at 7200 rpm. When reading and writing, the entire disc is in a high-speed spinning state. If the power was cut all of a sudden, the drive will vibrate. The friction between the disc head and disc will result in damage, appearing as Bad Track in Windows. You should shut down the computer after the drive has completed the read and write operations.

2. Prevent vibration.

In the hard drive installation process, be careful to prevent excessive shaking or violent collision with the chassis plate. When the drive is spinning, do not move the hard disk. Otherwise, the collision between the disc head and the disc plate will scratch the surface of the magnetosphere, resulting in damage of the disk.

3. Keep it away from the magnetic field

Keep the drive away from strong magnetic field, such as speakers, phone, radio, etc. Since the data was stored in the form of magnetization in the disk, magnetic field is the killer for hard drive.

4. Reduce intense operation

After prolonged use of an operating system, where the hard disk sector where the system files are stored, will be used intensively, thus increase the likelihood of damage to that sector. You’d better have two or more hard drives in order to avoid the intensive use of a particular sector.

5. Give it time to rest

You work for eight hours a day, so should your drive. It is best not to let the hard drive on for 24 x 7. It is bad for your drive and bad for the environment too.

6. Defragment the hard drive regularly

Frequent read and write operations will result a large number of non-contiguous drive space and drive fragmentations. When drive space is not continuous, the performance of hard drive will be affected. Use the built-in Windows system tools Drive Defragmenter to defragment the drive, and keep it in good shape.

7. Increase the memory size for the computer.

If you use memory intensive software frequently (such as image and video processing), you should increase the memory size to reduce using virtual memory, meaning writing and reading large amount of data to your disk from the memory. If you reach the limit for your memory size, considering buying a new cheap laptop, laptop deals are easy to find nowadays.

World’s first Digital Superbike, MotoCzysz E1pc is fitted with an iPhone

Apple’s iPhone is in green limelight again and this time it is playing the role of cherry-on-the-icing as it is seen on the MotoCzysz E1pc, the world’s first Digital Superbike. The green digi-beast is all set to debut on June 12th on the Isle of Man, United Kingdom and race in the first ever Zero-Emission Carbon-Free TTXGP Motorcycle Grand Prix. This high-tech electric bike can zoom up to 120mph in just 7-8 seconds without leaving any carbon footprint. However not much is revealed about the E1pc, except for the obvious iPhone on the dashboard. It comes loaded with 10 battery packs and three motors to participate and hopefully win in world’s first zero emissions road race. Come Friday and the green world will bow down to the winner of this green race.

  The worlds biggest private jet

If you’ve got qualms about where you could possibly dump your Rolls Royce when you’re flying for a holiday in Jamaica, then here’s an answer. This stunning aircraft can easily be tagged as the world’s most luxurious private jet, adding to its prior claim of being the biggest. What makes it impossibly good is the parking space for your Rolls Royce, stunning spiral staircases that connect the decks, plush guest rooms, a boardroom for meeting while on flight and a concert room to unwind with your business partners after all the paperwork and meetings. It has a capacity for 600 passengers! If all this isn’t enough, then get a load of this: a steam room to calm those jetlagged nerves, a wellbeing room to feast your eyes on a massive glass floor to show over what exactly you’re flying, and lifts and spiraling staircases to connect the various floors. Never before have I been so spellbound by a luxury private jet. Surely we have something that’s got more than meets the eye here. Among the most illustrious clients for this one, we have the Saudi Prince. Surely, the mere £300 million (~$478 million) pricetag won’t empty his royal treasury.

  Maitre Mirror Plays MP3s

The Maitre mirror from Stocco of Italy is certainly a beauty to behold – it comes with a touchscreen console that boasts a built in radio, clock and barometer as well. But as long as we’re not affected by anything but by the humor in the product, we don’t mind contributing a few words of praise. To start of with, this cool Maitre Mirror is perfect for those who like living a digital life. There’s no second to this one, especially with the touch interface that allows users to control the radio, a clock and (don’t gasp) a barometer! To add to this, it also has a MP3 player that’s built-in.The picture however shows something altogether different. I wonder. Let’s hope that it has something as tasty as built-in speakers or maybe it changes into a display screen as well.
